19:01 <meetingology> Current chairs: ErichEickmeyer OvenWerks eylul krytarik
19:01 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay, anyone here?
19:02 <WMRamadan> Yup
19:02 <ErichEickmeyer> Sweet. We could wait for everyone else to show up.
19:03 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic ubuntustudio-controls
19:03 <ErichEickmeyer> Hey OvenWerks, how's the progress?
19:04 <OvenWerks> I think it is about usable now.
19:04 <ErichEickmeyer> Sweet. I'm assuming the latest build was successful?
19:05 <OvenWerks> there is a build in: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/autobuild
19:05 <OvenWerks> it can be tested in 18.04 and .10
19:05 <ErichEickmeyer> Cool. I'll download and install it sometime later today to help in the testing.
19:06 <ErichEickmeyer> Next step would be to get it in the cosmic repo.
19:06 <OvenWerks> yes
19:07 <ErichEickmeyer> That might have to be a ross or tsimonq2 thing.
19:07 <OvenWerks> I think so.
19:07 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay.
19:07 <OvenWerks> -controls is a little less disruptive than cadence
19:07 <OvenWerks> also cadence and -controls do not work together
19:08 <ErichEickmeyer> cadence and qjackctl don't work together either. :P
19:08 <OvenWerks> cadence is quite intrusive
19:08 <ErichEickmeyer> #done initial builds of new ubuntustudio-controls available for testing.
19:08 <OvenWerks> we should probably add a breaks cadence or something
19:09 <ErichEickmeyer> #info ubuntustudio-controls breaks cadence
19:09 <ErichEickmeyer> OvenWerks: Would we add that to the package?
19:09 <OvenWerks> I think so
19:09 <ErichEickmeyer> Cool.
19:09 <OvenWerks> The only problem is that there is no cadence package
19:10 <OvenWerks> so knowing the exact name is hard :(
19:10 <ErichEickmeyer> Well, then it'll have to be part of the release notes.
19:11 <ErichEickmeyer> Usually it's cadence, at least in the kxstudio ppa it is.
19:11 <OvenWerks> I'll add that
19:11 <ErichEickmeyer> Cool.
19:12 <ErichEickmeyer> #agreed "add cadence to package breaks for ubuntustudio-controls"
19:12 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay. On to the next topic
19:13 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic ubuntustudio-welcome and -boutique
19:14 <ErichEickmeyer> No real progress to report. It's been a busy week. Though, if anybody wants to contribute in the rebranding process, it's at https://code.launchpad.net/~eeickmeyer/ubuntustudio/+git/ubuntustudio-welcome and https://code.launchpad.net/~eeickmeyer/ubuntustudio/+git/ubuntustudio-boutique.
19:14 <ErichEickmeyer> #link https://code.launchpad.net/~eeickmeyer/ubuntustudio/+git/ubuntustudio-welcome
19:14 <ErichEickmeyer> #link https://code.launchpad.net/~eeickmeyer/ubuntustudio/+git/ubuntustudio-boutique
19:15 <ErichEickmeyer> Any questions or comments?
19:16 <OvenWerks> was going to ask if we need welcome too... but think it is probably good to have.
19:16 <ErichEickmeyer> Well, from looking at the code, they kinda depend on each other.
19:16 <OvenWerks> if we can pack then as a deb would be nice too.
19:17 <ErichEickmeyer> iirc they're available as deb.
19:17 <ErichEickmeyer> At least, the budgie and mate versions are.
19:17 <OvenWerks> cool
19:17 <ErichEickmeyer> The mate version is only installed as a snap by default.
19:18 <ErichEickmeyer> That's all I've got. Still working on the rebranding. This past week was crazy for me.
19:18 <ErichEickmeyer> On to next topic
19:19 <OvenWerks> k
19:19 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic Documentation
19:19 <ErichEickmeyer> #subtopic Cleanup
19:19 <ErichEickmeyer> The documentation is a mess, and I added myself to try to see what I could do about changing some outdated documentation. Haven't seen SlidingHorn around for a while, but I was hoping he'd lead the charge on this.
19:20 <ErichEickmeyer> There's also a "setup" section that has a lot of things that -controls does for you without having to touch the command line (add user to audio, rt memory unlock, etc.).
19:21 <ErichEickmeyer> So, that needs to be modified to talk more about -controls than any manual changes to config files.
19:21 <OvenWerks> ya, thats old
19:22 <ErichEickmeyer> Yeah. I'll be going through that as I have time and clean it up and make some revisions. Already changed the references to the current versions which were about 2 years outdated.
19:24 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay, next topic.
19:24 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic Wallpapers
19:24 <ErichEickmeyer> I don't know why I put this on the agenda since I have nothing. Though, we did run into a bit of a tabled topic last time. Is eylul available?
19:26 <OvenWerks> I think we are still stuck
19:26 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay. We'll keep it tabled. :/
19:26 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic New Website Theme
19:27 <ErichEickmeyer> Not seeing Ross or eylul, so we'll have to move on. We need to get that theme uploaded.
19:27 <OvenWerks> right
19:27 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic Musician's Handbook
19:27 <ErichEickmeyer> First of all, big welcome and thank you to preppert who is not here right now for that amazing handbook. I had the privilege of reading it.
19:28 <WMRamadan> Where is this Musician’s Handbook?
19:28 <ErichEickmeyer> WMRamadan: It's still work-in-progress, but he linked it on the mailing list and you can find the thread in the archives.
19:29 <ErichEickmeyer> I plan on making a spot on the User Wiki for it to live as a living document, and that can be used to make official releases likely following every release as proposed by eylul.
19:30 <ErichEickmeyer> Should be mostly a copy-paste operation.
19:30 <ErichEickmeyer> My question is if preppert was planning on publishing it as a physical or ebook?
19:31 <ErichEickmeyer> Because that would be amazing.
19:31 <ErichEickmeyer> Anything to add? Anyone?
19:32 * OvenWerks can't find the mail list archive...
19:32 <WMRamadan> yea I can’t find it either
19:33 <ErichEickmeyer> #link https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-devel/
19:33 <ErichEickmeyer> Specifically https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-studio-devel/2018-June/subject.html
19:34 <WMRamadan> Much better it was hard searching the archive
19:34 <ErichEickmeyer> Cool.
19:35 <ErichEickmeyer> Well, I guess we'll get the answer. Anyhow, let's move on.
19:35 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic ubuntustudio-icon-theme: change disto icon
19:36 <ErichEickmeyer> So, the thing I was thinking is that the distributor-loco icon is a bit dated, and not uniform with the blue circle enclosing the logo on the other flavors, so I thought it would be a good idea to fix that. I'm all for doing it myself using the svgs avalable.
19:36 * OvenWerks is obtuse and wonders what is wrong with the old one or what is the new thing
19:37 <OvenWerks> Ya sure, go ahead.
19:38 <ErichEickmeyer> Cool.
19:39 <ErichEickmeyer> Can't find it right now, but I'll link it if I can.
19:40 <ErichEickmeyer> #link https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/UserShowcase?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=White-on-Blue_circle.svg
19:40 <ErichEickmeyer> That.
19:40 <OvenWerks> There do seem to be more than one, the one on our launchpad page is different than on my menu
19:40 <OvenWerks> That is the one in Launchpad
19:40 <ErichEickmeyer> Yeah. Seems that both are official, but the circled one seems to be more uniform with the rest of the flavors.
19:40 <OvenWerks> The one on my menu is negative to that
19:41 <ErichEickmeyer> You mean this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Artwork/UserShowcase?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=Blue-on-White_circle.svg
19:41 <OvenWerks> It is trying to look like and open reel tape reel
19:41 <OvenWerks> yes
19:42 <ErichEickmeyer> We can still have that for wallpapers, but I was thinking about uniformity with the rest of the flavors.
19:42 <OvenWerks> for example?
19:42 <OvenWerks> square?
19:43 <OvenWerks> (ish)
19:44 <ErichEickmeyer> https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ubuntu-official-flavors.jpg
19:44 <ErichEickmeyer> Just an example.
19:44 <OvenWerks> ok
19:44 <ErichEickmeyer> That's a bunch of flavors and the official "circle of friends". I guess ours is the "circle of reel?" XD
19:45 <OvenWerks> reely reely
19:45 <ErichEickmeyer> haha
19:45 <ErichEickmeyer> Anyhow, so I guess I'll go ahead and play around with it. Might be a good first package for me to modify.
19:46 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay, on to the next topic...
19:46 <OvenWerks> ok, the reel thing just happens to be round like most buntu things but otherwise does not even start to cover all Studio does.
19:47 <ErichEickmeyer> Agreed. Though, I don't think completely revising the logo is a good thing to do right now.
19:47 <OvenWerks> no
19:47 <ErichEickmeyer> I'm just talking about the one icon package.
19:47 <ErichEickmeyer> Anyhow...
19:48 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic hangar18 stepping down
19:48 <OvenWerks> go ahead with next
19:48 <ErichEickmeyer> Charlie wanted to contribute, but realized it wasn't a good time for him citing family issues. I just wanted to let everyone know in case weird rumors fly around.
19:49 <ErichEickmeyer> The timing with the Github post on the ML was what prompted me to try to kill the rumors.
19:49 <OvenWerks> no problem, people are here as they can be.
19:49 <ErichEickmeyer> And next topic...
19:50 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic Changing meetings from weekly to semi-weekly
19:50 <ErichEickmeyer> I think it'd be healthy at this point in the development process to meet every other week.
19:50 <OvenWerks> concidering how many people are here today and the amount of changes since last time...
19:51 <ErichEickmeyer> Yeah. I think, especially considering the time of year, we should do that. People want to spend time with their families, and I'm no exception.
19:52 <ErichEickmeyer> Perhaps as the release gets closer we can up the frequency, but for now, and to keep from stretching too thin, I think semi-weekly is good.
19:52 <ErichEickmeyer> Thoughts?
19:52 <OvenWerks> ok, I'll second if needed
19:52 <ErichEickmeyer> Sweet.

19:55 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay. That's all I've got for this week. I'd like to officially welcome WMRamadan to our packaging & development team!
19:55 <ErichEickmeyer> Anything else to discuss?
19:55 <WMRamadan> Thanks, looking forward to making some contributions.
19:56 <ErichEickmeyer> #topic packaging
19:56 <ErichEickmeyer> We would really like to get Carla packaged if you're up for the challenge, WMRamadan.
19:57 <ErichEickmeyer> Also, we will definitely need packaging help with -welcome, -boutique, and -plasma.
19:58 <WMRamadan> Ok, how do I get started?
19:58 <WMRamadan> Also, we are talking about Carla the autonomous driving simulator?
19:59 <ErichEickmeyer> No, talking about Carla the plugin host.
19:59 <ErichEickmeyer> audio plugin host, that is.
19:59 <WMRamadan> Haha, ok sorry
19:59 <ErichEickmeyer> #link https://github.com/falkTX/Carla
19:59 <OvenWerks> http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Applications:Carla
20:00 <WMRamadan> Yea, got it
20:00 <WMRamadan> So how do I get started with this?
20:00 <ErichEickmeyer> WMRamadan: Any .deb packaging experience?
20:00 <OvenWerks> The big thing to remember when packaging is that not everything needs to be included.
20:00 <WMRamadan> So all that is needed is to create a .deb package?
20:01 <OvenWerks> For example linux sampler can't be
20:01 <OvenWerks> the build pocess is a little different that the normal ./configure
20:02 <OvenWerks> make does not fail if things are missing it just buuilds without that funtionallity
20:02 <WMRamadan> Once I get this to work is this submitted on launchpad?
20:03 <ErichEickmeyer> I believe so, but OvenWerks, Ross, and tsimonq2 have more insight on that.
20:04 <OvenWerks> Launchpad can be used to store it, but ultimately it needs to be included in debian.
20:04 * ErichEickmeyer is still learning packaging and launchpad himself.
20:04 <ErichEickmeyer> OvenWerks: Unless it's in the universe or multiverse repos.
20:04 <OvenWerks> I have just learned that I am not very good at it.
20:05 <ErichEickmeyer> Okay. OvenWerks, you okay getting him started?
20:06 * ErichEickmeyer wishes Ross were here
20:06 <OvenWerks> I have yet to package anything :)
20:07 <ErichEickmeyer> WMRamadan: you okay to lurk here? tsimonq2 is a good resource for packaging.
20:07 <WMRamadan> ok no problem
20:07 <WMRamadan> would it go something like this….
20:07 <WMRamadan> 1 - Build binaries for Ubuntu Studio 18.04
20:07 <ErichEickmeyer> He's just not available. Something, something, Southeast Linux Fest.
20:08 <WMRamadan> 2 - Creat .deb package
20:08 <WMRamadan> 3 - Submitte to launchpad for review
20:08 <WMRamadan> ?
20:09 <ErichEickmeyer> Kindof. More like build, create .deb with source, upload to personal PPA, test .deb, then ???.
20:09 <OvenWerks> getting a package to a private ppa is first I think. I don't know who reviews things for inclusion
20:09 <ErichEickmeyer> We lost most of our packagers over the past couple years.
20:10 <WMRamadan> Who maintains what goes in the repo?
20:10 <ErichEickmeyer> That would be the ubuntu release team.
20:10 <WMRamadan> Do we meet with the release team?
20:11 <ErichEickmeyer> No, but we can tell them we have a package we'd like to include. They have a mailing list and an IRC channel. #ubuntu-release
20:12 <ErichEickmeyer> That's usually where I come in as release manager.
20:12 <WMRamadan> How can I join that mailing list?
20:12 <ErichEickmeyer> https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-release
20:13 <ErichEickmeyer> We should probably end this meeting and finish up outside of the meeting.
20:13 <OvenWerks> ok
20:13 <ErichEickmeyer> Can I get a second?
20:13 <OvenWerks> seconded
20:13 <ErichEickmeyer> Alright.
20:13 <ErichEickmeyer> #endmeeting
