Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/meetingology. 18:02 <meetingology> 18:02 <meetingology> Available commands: action commands idea info link nick 18:02 <popey> How are you guys? 18:02 <CarlosMazieri> I am fine, thanks. 18:03 <ajalkane> Good. Some small bug fixes and approvals, but apparently jenkins is hosed. Mr. Balloons said its under investigation. 18:03 <popey> Yes, it's been broken since friday. 18:03 <popey> The weekend and a US holiday yesterday kinda didn't help ☻ 18:03 <ajalkane> Aye... holidays are a pain in the ass :( 18:03 <popey> Yeah, how dare people spend time away from computers! 18:04 <ajalkane> No idea. Luckily my holiday is over after this week. 18:05 <ajalkane> Is there something specific we should look into for FileManager? I've basically been doing maintenance, fixing reported bugs and merge requests. 18:05 <ajalkane> And what about Nexus 4 device for Carlos, can that happen? 18:06 <popey> Right now fixing bugs and polish is the order of the day. I know CarlosMazieri has been looking at future items like samba support 18:06 <CarlosMazieri> Yes, I am planning samba support besides multhreading 18:06 <popey> I think we should get a device for CarlosMazieri, yes. 18:06 <popey> They're in short supply - I just had to give one of mine up for another person 18:07 <ajalkane> Good... its really helpful and even essential for some stuff. 18:07 <popey> Agreed. CarlosMazieri the best thing to do is to go through our community donations page. 18:07 * ajalkane doesn't know what you're talking about 18:07 <popey> It allows you to "apply" for one. 18:07 <popey> hah 18:07 <popey> let me get the page 18:08 <popey> here we go. CarlosMazieri http://community.ubuntu.com/help-information/funding/ 18:08 <popey> there's a form linked there. basically fill that in, and it gets reviewed. 18:08 <CarlosMazieri> OK, will do 18:08 <popey> I'll keep an eye out and we can make the case for you to have one too. 18:08 <popey> As I said, they're in short supply. 18:09 <popey> Soon we'll be sending out 'new' devices rather than these old nexus 4's 18:09 <ajalkane> So apparently Nexus 4 is not made anymore? 18:09 <popey> but we have to wait for the manufacturer to make and ship them first. 18:09 <popey> correct 18:09 <ajalkane> yeah that'll be much nicer, having a device designed for running Ubuntu Touch 18:09 <popey> there's a few on shelves in warehouses though 18:10 <popey> but they're hard to source, and well, older. 18:10 <popey> but put the request in and we'll see what we can do. 18:10 <popey> I have two things to ask about. 18:10 <popey> Not sure I should raise these as bugs, but wanted to mention to you guys first. 18:11 <popey> they are related. 18:11 <popey> Most other apps have moved the bottom toolbar up to the top. 18:11 <popey> We should look at the impact of doing that for File Manager 18:11 <popey> And related to that is that the button to allow access to all directories is hard to hit 18:12 <popey> partly because the toolbar at the bottom keeps popping up 18:12 <ajalkane> Yes, something must be done about that. Some items are easy, like going back. But others need careful thinking how to handle it. 18:12 <popey> http://popey.mooo.com/screenshots/device-2014-09-02-191222.png in this shot it's completely obscured. 18:12 <ajalkane> I guess if we move things to upper toolbar, the latter issue goes away 18:12 <popey> yes 18:13 <popey> back as you say is straightforward. 18:13 <popey> actions too, as that fits in the hamburger in the top right 18:13 <popey> but up, view and places wouldn't all fit up there 18:14 <popey> places could actually move to the top left hamburger 18:14 <ajalkane> yeah there's some thinking to be done about that... so it might take some time. 18:14 <ajalkane> One possible short-term solution could be to move the "Show all files" to top of the view instead of having it at bottom. 18:14 <popey> I'll file a bug and make some suggestions, and add a task for ubuntu-ux in case they have input on it 18:14 <ajalkane> That's good 18:14 <popey> it could also be a swipe up gesture 18:15 <popey> swipe up could have a little tab on it at the bottom, and when you swipe up you get the pin unlock screen 18:15 <CarlosMazieri> I think back is already available in the plugin as a slot, or I have not checked it in yet. 18:15 <ajalkane> I was thinking some of the functionality could be swipe-up thingy 18:16 <popey> yeah, would be bad to 'waste' the swipe up gesture on just unlock, i guess? 18:16 <ajalkane> Though what is a matter of debate. Something fundamental like showing all files feels somewhat wrong to not be "in your face" so to say 18:16 <popey> yes, but then it makes the app 100x more useful 18:16 <popey> so kinda needs to be "Hey, press this!" 18:17 <ajalkane> That's why I think showing all files should be visible always... but extra functionality like Places and the Go To bar could very well be swipe-up feature - but this needs thinking about what's smart 18:18 <popey> yeah 18:18 <ajalkane> CarlosMazieri: plugin has cdUp or something like that, and I think it's used 18:19 <CarlosMazieri> it has cdUP 18:19 <CarlosMazieri> it checks for root, example trash:// is root and cannot go up 18:20 <popey> One thing I know I miss when on phone file managers is the ability to switch between folders quickly. 18:21 <popey> So for example I may have one folder open in ~/Downloads, and another open in ~/Music/Abba 18:21 <popey> and want to switch between them repeatedly 18:21 <popey> the bottom edge could be a good place to put the switching feature 18:21 <ajalkane> There was support for tabs in filemanager, you mean something like that? 18:21 <popey> yes 18:21 <CarlosMazieri> you mean two or more frames ? 18:21 <popey> exactly 18:22 <popey> so swiping up would be like a tab-switch 18:22 <ajalkane> It was disabled due to some SDK issues - could be the issues have been resolved now 18:22 <popey> listing them, pull up a little and reveal a list of tabs in the same way the dialer reveals a list of callers 18:23 <ajalkane> That would be nice. The header is no more a tab like feature like it is in home screen and pull down menu? 18:23 <popey> perhaps, yes. 18:23 <popey> need to think about the impact of this and where everything moves to 18:24 <popey> not an immediate priority, but needs thinking about 18:24 <popey> because extra options like connecting to servers, and sharing folders will make the menu get more "busy" 18:26 <popey> I'll file a bug about the UI changes anyway, and maybe we can get some design input from people who've previously contributed in that area/ 18:26 <ajalkane> yeah. FileManager is probably one thing that will in future need many options, some that are important to be able to access quickly and others that can be behind a couple of clicks. So some planning is good to be done 18:26 <popey> ? 18:26 <ajalkane> Yes please file a bug - something must be done about it anyway 18:27 <popey> ok 18:28 <popey> Anything else to discuss? 18:28 <ajalkane> Nothing else comes to my mind 18:28 <CarlosMazieri> No, Thanks. 18:29 <CarlosMazieri> thanks for changing meeting time. 18:29 <popey> Great, ok, I'll file the bug, CarlosMazieri if you could submit the request that would be great. 18:29 <popey> no problem. It's better for me at this time too 18:29 <ajalkane> me too 18:29 <CarlosMazieri> OK, will try later 18:29 <popey> \o/ 18:29 <popey> Ok, lets wrap! Thanks as always guys! 18:29 <ajalkane> Thanks guys 18:30 <popey> #endmeeting
