fsck the FileSystem ChecKer, which runs automatically when you boot if you didn't shutdown cleanly. Type "man fsck" for information on running it manually. The command "sudo touch /forcefsck && sudo shutdown -r now" will force a reboot and a filesystem check; "sudo touch /fastboot" will skip a filesystem check at next reboot Added by LjL

stages <reply> The Ubuntu Kernel gets updated in stages. If you have the updated kernel, but do not have the corresponding restricted modules, you may be leaving yourself with no X when you reboot. debootstrap used to create a !Debian or Ubuntu base system from scratch, without requiring the availability of !dpkg or !APT. It does this by downloading !.deb files from a mirror site, and carefully unpacking them into a directory you can eventually !chroot into. If you need one, consider using Microsoft's media creation tool from a Windows computer (see ##windows for support).
