What did you need? 12:37 bah my backlog doesn't go back that far. So at the moment dekko doesn't give any real indication that something is happening that is going to affect the view apart from the progress bouncer. I wondered if there is any UX guidlines on showing an in app status message. 12:38 gventuri previously mentioned https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/presentation/d/1woHjO8K4iqyVZZlfQ4BXL0DhYbwkEmZ7wvcUhYzHDRk/edit#slide=id.g183c60488_08 as a possible solution. But that was a long time ago 12:39 Right, I believe we have some ‘toast-like’ notifications at least planned/ spec’d and they’re pretty close to what’s in that doc. I’ll talk to the designer currently working on notifications and let you know/ pass the relevant spec your way for reference 12:39 That would be great thanks. :-) 12:40 I see timp is working on scrolling head sections. Once that lands I can move Dekko back to the SDK header components. 12:40 nice 12:41 Need any help from us with that? Or will do you expect it to be fairly straight forward (once its landed)? 12:42 I've seen in a few mockups the header sections are changing to blue when selected. Do i need to change to that colour or is that purely just mockup 12:42 It should be straight forward. The header seems pretty flexible now 12:42 I’ll need to check in with visual design on the latest regarding colour use. 12:42 * JMulholland takes note 12:43 thanks :-) 12:47 Ahh there's this bug from dpm https://bugs.launchpad.net/dekko/+bug/1548672 about the right panel view being blank on app start for the wide layout 12:47 DanChapman: the colour should be handled automatically by the sections 12:47 so there should be no change needed once you move to the sdk components 12:48 hi DanChapman o/ :) 12:48 faenil, I don't think that change will happen before ota-10. I aint got enough fingers ;-p 12:48 you rock at bug triaging, btw :) 12:49 hey dpm :-D 12:49 DanChapman: not a problem :) 12:50 re: 1548672 - Yes, we should have some sort of empty state for this. My personal preference would be to show the most recent message, with “No message selected” (or similar) for when nothing available to pre-select 12:50 what do you think? 12:51 JMulholland: popey is at embedded world 12:51 thanks davmor2, got my wires crossed and thought he was having fun with the others at MWC :) 12:53 I'm sure he's having fun, yesterday he sent a picture with ogra in a suit! 12:53 haha! :D 12:53 that what snappy makes to you :) 12:53 JMulholland, yep sounds good. Just to be sure... So if a folder has been previously opened in either a previous or current session then select the last viewed message other wise just a simple message with "No message selected"? 12:55 Id say so, it’s that or show the most recently received message by default - they both have pro’s and cons. 12:58 What would you guys prefer in your day-to-day emailing? A) Show the most recently receieved message when you open the app. B) persist the state between sessions and show the last thing you looked at. 12:58 Yeah i'd avoid automatically selecting a recently received unread message. That will change state on the server without user interaction, which is usually frowned upon. OTOH I would think it's fine to do that if it's triggered from a push notification message being activated & launching Dekko. 12:58 very good point 12:59 so lets go with persisting between sessions, sound good to you too faenil? 12:59 * faenil tunes back in, after being pulled into another conv 13:00 …which is why I do these meetings in a meeting room :P 13:00 JMulholland: that doesn't help :) 13:00 (chat conv) 13:00 heheh. 13:00 :-D 13:01 sounds good to me 13:01 (if we really have to show something) 13:02 personally I wouldn't open any email at startup, you could be with another person who should not be reading that email 13:02 that’s a valid poiny 13:03 *point 13:03 Perhaps not such an issue for a small device, but on a large monitor.... 13:04 yeah 13:04 especially on a large monitor 13:04 but even because you might not want to wait for an email to load, before having to go back and open another one 13:04 mmm don't know 13:04 just tried geary, thunderbird & nylas and they all show the last selected message. 13:05 As does “outbox” and “mail” 13:05 time's up for me :) cya next time people o/ 13:05 DanChapman: as usual, ping me as needed :) 13:05 Cya faenil. Will do :-) 13:05 and yea, the wait for the load combined with pickup/put down sessions (due to distractions or (hopefully not) crashes)… Picking up where you left off would be nice. 13:06 thanks faenil, see you! 13:06 DanChapman: interesting...gmail doesn't open any email 13:06 gmail android? 13:07 Ahh IIRC it has the little mailbox icon centered in the view? 13:07 web gmail 13:07 * faenil fades 13:07 o/ 13:07 see yah 13:07 web gmail goes staright to an inbox view, so Im not sure it’s applies here 13:08 this is starting to sound like a possible preference setting. "Show last message on start" 13:09 I think that may be the best approach based even just on this discussion: Go with the common convention for now (persist) as a default setting, and if anything causes us pause down the road we can revisit and switch the default over to showing an empty ‘select a message’ state. Sound good Dan? 13:09 (And lets get popeys input on this too, once he’s back from buis. travel) 13:09 Sounds good to me. I'll add it to the bug report. 13:10 Great. Shall we wrap up there for this week? I’ll follow up with you regarding toast-style notifications and header colours 13:11 Yep :-) I don't have anything else to discuss this week. 13:11 That would be great thanks :-) 13:11 Cool. Giveus a shout if anything else comes up and enjoy the rest of your week. Thanks DanChapman! :) 13:12 You too! 13:12 #endmeeting
