15:53 <popey> :D
15:53 <gang66> :-D
15:53 <JMulholland> hi!
15:53 <JMulholland> :P
15:53 <gang66> hi !
15:54 <gang66> How are you ?
15:54 <gang66> :-)
15:54 <gang66> First thing to do not forget
15:54 <gang66> James: Could you please take a look at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-calculator-app/+bug/1446808
15:55 <JMulholland> ack, i thought I’d replied to that last friday
15:55 <JMulholland> so sorry Gang66, will recreate my comment
15:55 <gang66> no problem
15:55 <gang66> please do so
15:56 <JMulholland> will do (short version is your proposal seems to line up with the designs, so lets try it!)
15:57 <gang66> James: Please add comment that you agree with that
15:58 <gang66> Next nice think, which I would like to introduce is "Welcome Wizard" or "Tips of the day:
15:58 <gang66> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-calculator-app/+bug/1442804
15:58 <gang66> Kevin already provided two graphics
15:58 <gang66> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8NjAHEq9cvETW9ZemZSSlp0NWs/view
15:58 <gang66> Please let me know what do you think about that ...
15:59 <JMulholland> gang66 already replied on 1446808
15:59 <JMulholland> :-)
16:00 <popey> ooh, i like those graphics
16:00 <popey> they'll be good on the tips wizard thing
16:01 <JMulholland> they look pretty good to me too :)
16:01 <gang66> I have some doubts, that maybe it is too much phone specific
16:01 <JMulholland> ah, good point gang66!
16:01 <JMulholland> The visual designers might have some comments on the style/ colours too
16:01 <gang66> I would like to have more generic (to be also applicable for tablet and other phone layouts
16:03 <popey> Well, we could only display them if the GU is smaller than a certain number?
16:04 <popey> If you're on a large tablet / desktop we could just not show them
16:04 <JMulholland> hm, there’s some work being done for coach marks as SDK components… I wonder if any of that could help us out here
16:04 <popey> but if the GU is small, assume it's a phone, so the user might want to know
16:04 <popey> coach marks?
16:04 <JMulholland> little tags that tell people how edge gestures work on furst use, etc
16:04 <JMulholland> *first
16:04 <popey> ah okay.
16:04 <popey> like the welcome wizard has already?
16:05 <popey> those coloured semi-circular things?
16:05 <JMulholland> might be a way to provide tips for the large tablet / desktop scenario...
16:06 <JMulholland> last i saw
16:06 <popey> When will that land?
16:06 <JMulholland> they we’re little bands across the bottom of the display/ window
16:06 <JMulholland> with some instruction and a next/ dismiss button
16:06 <JMulholland> (and the app itself fadded out behind them)
16:07 <JMulholland> Their among the things being reviewed during next weeks sprint, so as an early part of 1.3, as far as I know
16:07 <popey> okay, cool.
16:07 <popey> 1.3? 1.4 you mean?
16:07 <JMulholland> oops
16:08 <JMulholland> I think we can all agree we *do not* want dialogue style tips, right?
16:09 <popey> What, spammy things on top of your work, yeah.
16:09 <popey> We need a paperclip
16:09 <gang66> yes
16:11 <popey> Ok, anything else?
16:12 <gang66> hmm
16:12 <gang66> I already started:
16:12 <gang66> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-calculator-app/+bug/1468663
16:12 <gang66> And it is running in Landscape mode on Desktop
16:12 <gang66> Unfortunately there is a thing with Autopilot
16:13 <gang66> During Autopilot tests it is also running in landscape mode
16:13 <JMulholland> was grabbing an example for you guys: http://imgur.com/a/rG1An
16:13 <JMulholland> Not my sketches, another designer put them together. But they give you some idea of the coah marks component
16:13 <JMulholland> *coach
16:14 <popey> Yeah, the only problem I have with those is they're like a Game tutorial
16:14 <popey> There's no way to skip them
16:14 <popey> you _have_ to do as they instruct
16:14 <popey> when you've seen them 20 times it gets old very fast
16:14 <JMulholland> certainly the second one, but the first (band along the bottom) has a ‘skip’ button top-right
16:14 <popey> and there's nothing on the screen that lets you make them go away quickly other than to do as the phone commands you to do, like a good little boy! :D
16:15 <JMulholland> I totally see your point though
16:15 <popey> yeah
16:15 <popey> I dont actually like the first one at all
16:15 <popey> :)
16:15 <popey> Redeemed by having a skip button though ;)
16:16 <JMulholland> heheh
16:16 <popey> gang66, is autopilot failing ?
16:16 <gang66> Nope, it is passing
16:17 <gang66> But in Ladnscape view
16:17 <JMulholland> food for thought. Maybe we need to suggest a more ‘full screen with a tip of the day and/or image’ version...
16:17 <gang66> James: It will be very useful
16:18 <popey> ah
16:18 <popey> JMulholland, i like the ones podbird has on first launch
16:18 <popey> same for music app
16:19 <JMulholland> will flash my device and remind myself of how they look/ behave!
16:21 <popey> heh
16:23 <gang66> I would like to make it similar to Podbird
16:24 <popey> yeah, that would look good.
16:24 <gang66> One more question
16:24 <popey> They have that right, one picture, a little text, easy to understand how to scroll and skip
16:24 <popey> ok
16:25 <gang66> I would like to decrease Calculator load time
16:25 <gang66> For other project I was using QtCreator (eg. Clock)
16:25 <gang66> Unfortunately for Calculator it cannot connect
16:26 <gang66> Do you know who could help in that matter
16:26 <gang66> I tried many possible solution, and none of them is working for me
16:26 <popey> I don't understand.
16:26 <popey> cannot connect to what?
16:27 <gang66> It is Profiling, and it unable to connect to device
16:27 <gang66> It seems that Calculator is crashing during startup
16:29 <gang66> Steps to run profiler on Clock:
16:29 <gang66> 1. Run QtCreator
16:29 <gang66> 2. Load Clock app
16:29 <gang66> 3. Switch to Debug tab
16:30 <popey> ahh for profiling, I understand.
16:30 <popey> Not tried that, will try
16:30 <popey> I don't know if that's a qtc bug or an issue with the codebase of the app?
16:30 <gang66> It is "Analyze" tab
16:31 <gang66> http://doc.qt.io/qtcreator/creator-qml-performance-monitor.html
16:31 <gang66> Try with Clock app first
16:31 <popey> Yeah, I haven't used that for a while.
16:31 <gang66> On real device
16:32 <popey> Will have a play with that tomorrow and see what happens here.
16:32 <gang66> For Calculator it is crashing
16:32 <popey> It would be good to see what's eating up the startup time
16:32 <popey> ok. will take a look.
16:33 <gang66> Do you know where I could find logs from crash on phone (BQ E4.5) ?
16:33 <popey> made a note to play with that tomorrow, thanks.
16:33 <popey> .cache/upstart usually
16:33 <gang66> ok
16:33 <gang66> thanks
16:33 <gang66> That's all from my side
16:33 <JMulholland_> thanks!
16:34 <popey> Thanks guys!
