| fsck | the FileSystem ChecKer, which runs automatically when you boot if you didn't shutdown cleanly. Type "man fsck" for information on running it manually. The command "sudo touch /forcefsck && sudo shutdown -r now" will force a reboot and a filesystem check; "sudo touch /fastboot" will skip a filesystem check at next reboot | LjL Added on: 2006-12-13 20:01:03 Last edited by tsimpson Last modified: 2011-05-04 07:55:19 Requested 1033 times |

| stages | <reply> The Ubuntu Kernel gets updated in stages. If you have the updated kernel, but do not have the corresponding restricted modules, you may be leaving yourself with no X when you reboot. If you have compiled binary versions of your video driver, eg from the nVidia site, you will need to recompile them for the new kernel. This is normal, and not a bug. | Hobbsee Added on: 2007-10-06 16:47:05 Last edited by Hobbsee Last modified: 2007-10-06 16:48:34 Requested 309 times |
