dmesg a console command which outputs the kernel ring buffer - an important log for diagnosing problems in Linux. Often when something errors with hardware it will result in additional lines reported which can be seen by running dmesg in a console. popey

dhcp Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for automatic IP assignment from a router. Ubuntu uses dhclient as a DHCP client but other ones (and DHCP servers too) can be obtained from the !repos. More info at http://en.wikipedia.…/wiki/DHCP tonyyarusso
